About Us

The Allient® Sorbent Hemodialysis System

The Allient System is the most recently developed sorbent-based system. The Allient System delivers flexibility, safety and convenience for acute and chronic renal failure. The system utilizes only six liters of potable tap water, enabling high quality therapy and improved patient outcomes.

Its many advantages include:

THE LOWEST FLUID REQUIREMENT OF ANY SYSTEM

The Allient System takes advantage of SMARRT technology utilizing 6 liters (1 ½ gallons) of dialysate for one treatment made from potable tap water. Therefore, no complex, cumbersome water purification system is required and no special plumbing is necessary.

SYSTEM ADVANTAGES

The Allient System provides a patient-driven therapy which adapts by means of the sorbent cartridge to the patient’s own biochemistry making treatments highly effective and individualized. The system continuously regenerates and recirculates a small volume of highly pure dialysate, which provides a safety feature not possible with single pass systems. The system’s disposable dialysate pathway never requires internal system disinfection or decalcification. The revolutionary Pulsar™ Blood Pump provides expanded safety and versatility advantages through its unique, pressure-limited, two-chamber design. The gentle, heart-like diaphragm pump cannot develop high pressure if occluded. The Pulsar pump can also easily accommodate both single and dual lumen vascular assess. Single-needle operation assures venous disconnect safety.

EASE OF USE

The Allient System is a self-contained unit eliminating the hassles and complexities associated with water treatment and system sterilization. SMARRT dialysis uses small packets of dry chemicals added to only six liters of potable tap water to produce dialysate for one treatment. SMARRT therapy can be provided in a wide variety of clinical treatment environments, as only a standard power outlet is required. Because dialysate and blood contact surfaces are disposable, internal disinfection is never required. This convenience minimizes turnaround time. A colorful touch screen provides easy to understand, graphically displayed instructions for all aspects of operating the system. Treatment parameters and information are easily reviewed on screen.

A WIDE TREATMENT RANGE

The Allient System enhances treatment flexibility through the ability to provide short or long treatment options ranging from 3 – 8 hours in length. Slow, gentle dialysate with blood flows of 200 - 300 ml/min are utilized for long, 6-8 hour treatments. Higher flow rates, up to 400 ml/min, are used for short, 3-6 hour treatments.

Sorbent Cartridges

The sorbent cartridges are the heart of SMARRT technology. More detail about these innovative cartridges can be found here.

Blood Pump

The revolutionary Pulsar™ Blood Pump was developed for Renal Solutions’ sorbent-based hemodialysis systems. The Pulsar Blood Pump provides expanded safety and versatility advantages through its unique, pressure-limited, two-chamber design. The gentle, heart-like diaphragm pump cannot develop high pressure if occluded. The Pulsar pump can also easily accommodate both single and dual lumen vascular assess. Single-needle operation assures venous disconnect safety.

The revolutionary Pulsar Blood Movement System consists of two components: a single-use disposable Pulsar Blood Pump chamber assembly, which is part of the arterial bloodline, and a pneumatic system within the Allient System used to generate alternating positive and negative pressures within the pump chambers.

A Major Advance in Single-Lumen Efficiency

The Pulsar Blood Movement System:

  • Does not add noise when in single-needle mode;
  • Requires no additional blood volume;
  • Requires no additional pumps to be coordinated to return blood;
  • And features virtually non-existent incremental recirculation, estimated to be less than 1%.
  • Finally, laboratory studies have suggested that there may be efficiency advantages to a pulsatile flow pattern vs. a standard roller pump flow pattern

Pulsar – the first truly new blood pump in the new millennium.
